Dear Parishioners:
Well, school has started once again. For all teachers, I offer these quotes on the importance of your vocation as a teacher.
“Actions speak louder than words; let your words teach and your actions speak.” – Saint Anthony of Padua
“The first subject students learn is the teacher. Teachers offer themselves for imitation. This is the essence of what people call
teaching.” – Saint Augustine
“A teacher can ignite the flame of learning and transform a life from darkness to brilliance.” – Saint Thomas Aquinas
“The task of the educator is to bring the soul from the shadows of ignorance into the light of truth.” – Saint Catherine of Siena
But, lest you think that the saints were a little “pollyanna-ish,” St. Benildus said, “I imagine that the angels themselves, if they came down as schoolmasters, would find it hard to control their anger. Only with the help of the Blessed Virgin do I keep from murdering some of them.” Having taught at St. Anthony’s High School, I can resonate with St. Benildus!
With the start of school, many parish activities start up once again. September is a busy month:
Our annual Beach Mass is on Sunday, September 21st at 12:00 PM and our annual Wedding Anniversary Mass, also is on September 21st at 2:30 PM. Please see the Bulletin for details and please register to let us know you are coming. We need to plan the amount of food, so please register.
This past Labor Day, we had our Parish Clean-up party. I especially want to thank the Knights of Columbus and the Fathers’ Guild men for all their work. So, a big “thank you” to: Len & Tim East, John Garvey, Vince Columbo, Carmelo Ardito, Joe Consalvo, Joe Soriano, Joe Pianese, Jerry & Becky Reilly, Ed Carlson, Rich Lamb, Tommy Nasiatke, Mike, Jen & Emma Katapolis, Richard Darmanin and John Pilkington. I hope I did not miss anyone. I especially enjoyed having Tim East:
He came with a hardhat and reflector vest. The group nominated him the Foreman!
Regarding my “prison” tour with the National Guard, I will probably leave right after the Feast in October. However, they want me to leave earlier. So, I may actually leave this Tuesday, September 9. I should know in a few days. Stay tuned…
As you know, the FEAST is around the corner. Please watch the bulletin for details about buying ride tickets, etc. – and start the novena to pray for good weather!
Remember: Together, we can do something beautiful for God
In Christ,
Fr. Brian
