Adult Religious Formation

Learn more about your faith through our Adult Faith Formation courses! St. Patrick’s offers courses each year in conjunction with the diocese Religious Studies Program.

Courses may be used for personal faith enrichment or for credit toward the Basic Theology Certificate and Advanced Theology Certificate offered by the Diocese of Rockville Centre. The courses are free for St. Patrick parishioners. For non-parishioners, the fees are $10 for Basic Courses and $15 for Advanced Courses.

For a list of courses offered throughout the diocese, visit www.drvc-faith.org and go to the Adult Education tab.

Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA)

Would you like to learn more about the Catholic Church?

Are you interested in becoming Catholic?

Do you need to complete the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation)?

Do you need to be baptized?

Do you have a child who has passed his/her seventh birthday without being baptized?

Do you have a child who has passed Confirmation age, but was not confirmed?

If your answer to any of these questions is “yes,” our Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) (formerly RCIA) program may be just what you need. Each year, our parish welcomes people from a variety of faith backgrounds into the Church through OCIA. Our parish has two programs that run simultaneously – one for young people and one for adults.

To learn more, email us at ocia@stpatricksmithtown.org or call the rectory at 631-265-2271.

Religious Education, Grades 1-8

Religious Formation

St. Patrick’s Religious Formation program prepares children for the reception of Sacraments and seeks to set them on a lifelong journey with God. Classes take place weekly for children in grades one through eight and are held at St. Patrick School. The program also features Family Liturgies and service projects. A special education program is also offered.

Children in grades 1-2 are prepared for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Communion. In grades 3-6, children learn about the beliefs and practices of the Catholic Church, with emphasis on integrating their faith into their everyday lives. Young people in grades 7-8 are prepared to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in the spring of their 8th grade year. The program relies heavily on volunteers.
