Dear Parishioners:
Well, we have definitely been in the “dog days” of summer. I think the best weather is 65 degrees and partly cloudy, so this weather has not been enjoyable for me.
Our Summer Camps and Vacation Bible school ended this past Friday, I think everyone had a good time. I will say this: for all the moms, next summer, I would have the kids stay at home and I would go to the Camp! They went to a lot of nice places this summer, including a ferry ride to Fire Island. Now, we are finishing up our “deep summer clean” in the school. Believe it or not, school starts in about two weeks.
I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for your generosity to the only Catholic Parish in Gaza. The congregation numbers about 1,000 people. The church was bombed by the Israelis about a month ago. We collected $9,504. I am working on transferring the money to the parish. It is not as simple as sending them a check, but we will get the funds to the parish. It will be a great help to them.
As you read this letter, Fr. Fred Hill is in a rehabilitation center. He had been falling frequently so he is there to build up his strength. In addition, after discussion with Bishop Barres and Fr. Lachlan Cameron, the Vicar for Priests, Fr. Fred has decided to move his residence to the St. Pius X Residence for Retired Priests. It is the assisted living facility that is run by the Diocese for our retired priests in need of more care than a normal parish rectory can provide. We will have a “farewell Mass” and reception in the future.
I am supposed to be leaving for work with the Air National Guard to work once again for the Service Members assisting the Correction Officers. I will be stationed in the eight Correctional Facilities near Buffalo. However, there have been a few administrative issues, so as of today (Wednesday), I am still here in the Parish. I will be gone for about a month. Fr. Cona and Fr. Jaison will be in charge. I am concerned that when I leave they will sell all my possessions in a garage sale and change the locks on the rectory doors!!
Remember: Together, we can do something beautiful for God.
In Christ,
Fr. Brian
