Fr. Daniel Opoku-Mensah became our associate pastor on June 24, 2026. He is a naturalized citizen of the United States, was born and raised in a devout Catholic family in Ghana as the third of seven children. He completed his elementary, high school, minor and part of college seminary education in Ghana, West Africa.
At the seminary in Ghana, Fr. Daniel was actively involved in athletics, particularly soccer and track. In 2009, Fr. Daniel was sent to the United States for theological studies through a scholarship from the Diocese of Rockville Centre. He completed his formation at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington and St. Joseph Seminary in Yonkers, earning master’s degrees in Pastoral Studies, Theology, and Divinity in 2014.
His pastoral assignments during the seminary formation included St. Brigid Parish in Westbury, Nassau University Medical Centre (pastoral care, 2011-2012), and St. Mary Parish in Manhasset (2012-2013). He was ordained a transitional deacon on September 1, 2013 at St. Agnes Cathedral and served at Sacred Heart Parish in North Merrick (2013-2014).
Fr. Daniel was ordained a priest in Ghana on July 26, 2014. His first parish assignment was at St. James Church in Setauket (2014–2016), where he helped with Ministry of Consolation and served as assistant chaplain at Stony Brook University.
His subsequent assignments included Holy Family Parish in Hicksville (2016–2021), during which he also served as assistant chaplain at Holy Trinity High School, and Plainview Hospital; Curé of Ars Parish in Merrick (2021–2023); and Our Lady of Victory Church (OLV) in Floral Park (2023-2026). Fr. Daniel also teaches as an adjunct assistant professor at St. John’s University, Queens campus.
Fr. Daniel holds a master’s degree in educational leadership, doctorate in leadership, and a Ph.D. in educational leadership with a specialization in curriculum and instruction.
