Beginning Experience Weekend—The loss of a spouse through death, divorce or separation is one of life’s most traumatic experiences. It can be overwhelming and hard to move forward. The Beginning Experience is a time to focus on you . . . to feel understood by peers and experience a sense of peace and a renewed sense of hope. “Desert Bread” - A Journey Through the Great Arts of Catholicism—Join the Friends of the Seminary Sunday afternoons, Oct 22, and 29 from 2:00 - 4:30pm at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington for a workshop series presented by Professor Annabelle Moseley. Just as the Israelites were nourished in the desert with bread from heaven, we will nourish the soul as well as the body, exploring the rich treasure trove of art, literature and music unique to our Catholic faith. $25 per session/$60 for all three in advance.

Ministry to Families with Special Needs—Families who have members with special needs or developmental disabilities often find it difficult to attend weekly Mass together. St. James Parish in Setauket offers a special Mass for these families each month at 1:00pm followed by refreshments and fellowship. This Mass will be offered on the following dates for the remainder of 2017: Oct 14, Nov 11, and Dec 9.

The Sisters of St. Dominic of Amityville Celebrate their Annual Gala—Many of you know the Dominican Sisters of Amityville through their ministry in schools, health facilities, parish affiliations, etc. This year’s gala will honor those whose daily dedication and hard work foster the creation of a caring community. The Dominican Gala will be held on Thu, Oct 26 at the Crest Hollow Country Club to benefit the ministries of our Sisters. Several award recipients will also be honored. Vendors Wanted—For the St. James Church of Setauket Christmas Fair on Saturday, December 2nd. The fair will include one of the largest miniature nativities in the world (called a presepio), many vendors, pictures with Santa, entertainment, food, make-and-take kiddie crafts, raffles, many collectibles for viewing and purchase and more. $50 registration fee per table.

Volunteers Needed—Maria Regina Residence, located at 1725 Brentwood Road in Brentwood, is seeking compassionate men and women who are willing to volunteer their time in varied service areas (usually one morning or afternoon per week) in assisting residents in their wheelchairs, assisting with recreational service or other needs in the building. Maria Regina Residence is a 188-bed Skilled Nursing Facility under the care of the Sisters of St. Joseph.
